Seoul National University College of Medicine was designated as a WHO Collaborative Center for Educational Development on 15 September 2015, effective until 15 September 2019. The acting organization for Collaborating Center is National Teacher Training Center for Health Professional (NTTC), stablished in 1975 under the support of WHO and China Medical Board, and contributed to the educational development of health professionals in Korea for more than 40 years.
The terms of reference of the center are:
- To promote and support educational development and strengthen capacity for health professional education in the western pacific region;
- To facilitate gathering, analyzing and sharing information on health professional education and best practices, to bring together new information in the region.
We are committed to support and enable low-resource countries to plan and implement strategies that are in line with WHO’s global strategy on human resources for health and the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel.
The activities of Collaborating Center are:
- Short-term international fellowship program in Korea to strengthen the capacity of health professional education of partner countries
- Training of trainers program for health professional education institutions and hospitals in partner countries: curriculum development and evaluation, teaching and learning strategies, student assessment, mentoring and coaching etc.
- Consultation for the development of health professional education system including basic education, post-graduate training, continuing professional development, selection and admission system, licensing system and institutional accreditation in line with global standard
- Research on effective approaches in health professional education, human development, participatory decision making, training program evaluation…
For the sustainability of development assistance programs, we follow the principles of Learner Centered, Participatory, and Appreciative Approach.
